Apps
There are virtually hundreds of thousands of apps currently on the market and more are being added each day.
A few cool things I'm learning about in books as apps class: Comics (free container, purchase individual comics) CIA Agent Ajax Chopsticks Cathy's Book The Survivors by Chafie Creative (Immersedition). What do you think about this?

Widgets
A widget is an app, or a component of an interface, that enables a user to perform a function or access a service. Think small database search boxes that you have seen embedded on a library homepage. There are a few widgets that we use to promote reading at GPS. They are: LibraryThing
This online bookshelf is a fun way to promote new books in your library, link out to reviews, etc. More about it here.
Flickr
We sometimes use a flickr widget on our homepage to show students and faculty "caught reading", to promote book programs, library displays, author talks, and more. You can even upload directly to your flickr account from your smartphone! A how to is here.
Tumblr
From Tumblr: "A feature rich and free blog hosting platform offering professional and fully customizable templates, bookmarklets, photos, mobile apps, and social network ..." Haven't used it myself but our students are using it heavily.
